An Urban Birding Safari with Richard

Our current system of travel restrictions, lockdowns, and shelter-in-place orders has many of us stuck in isolation…but some people’s isolation is more palatable than others’. South Africa has imposed some of the tightest restrictions of anywhere in the world—citizens are admonished not to leave their houses and yards without very good reason.

This has Apex Africa guide Richard Visser, essentially confined to the complex in which he lives. But why let a little thing like that keep you from going on safari? In this video, Richard, along with wife Samantha (in the background at first) and young son Blake, launch out on a private urban safari. And if they gave prizes for Making the Best of a Bad Situation, Richard would be a serious contender.

I’m still laughing. Thank you for that unbelievable birding safari. Blake is precious. What a cutie. You, Jonathan and Marco are so extremely lucky to be in lockdown with such adorable children and obviously fantastic wives!!! Have fun.
